Moody

This is the beginnings of a mood board I'm trying to build as inspiration... I have to admit it's a little weird posting things like this. I never know if I feel comfortable about it. I kind of feel exposed. I guess i have to admit it's all a work in progress and nothing is ever really finished so I should just let go.

Train the brain

How do you train your brain to focus on one project with an overarching theme without being distracted by other ideas and other inspirations?

Untitled-3

How do you know when it's a good concept that will help you produce endlessly or it's a shallow concept that falls flat just when you get started?
I guess you just don't. You just have to do.

For the sake of procrastination, let's revisit oldies but goodies shall we?

Please be sure to watch this one all the way through.

Prada Resort 2010

I absolutely loved this collection. So much that when I saw this photo in August Vogue I had to draw it.

Natural History

IMG_3915

As a child we were brought on many field trips to the Museum of Natural History. I enjoy it more every year. It must be one of my favorite places.

Little did I know that the last time I would go on a field trip to this museum I would be almost 20 years out of elementary school...

It's been too long

But I haven't had a whole lot to say - my excitements I've kept to myself.
It's time to open up again.

Don't let your eyes jump from one to the next but hold on. Look for the devil in the details. I love to imagine the choices one made to come to these final moments.

These particular photos of this show were more exciting than my usual sources ... you can see the whole show on style.com but these are from Jak and Jil.

On my mind

I saw Beautiful Losers this weekend. I was looking forward to it but I didn't know what to expect. The movie really focused on the purity of the artists' intentions. The film their work simply as doing makes them happy and implied that somehow because most of them were not classically trained they were free of the "rules" of fine art. That they were free to do what made them happy, often how children draw with no insecurity, it allowed them to not have to question themselves ever.

photo

Because the film had to cover so many people on top of keeping focus on the actual art show Beautiful Losers, it didn't get into most of their personal struggles or how and why they were the ones to become more popular than others. The film did however touch a little bit on the dilemma of working with ad agencies while keeping their fans and peers still interested.

Also on my mind - I'm excited for fashion week. It's a good birthday gift to me. :P

Mostly on my mind - today is my first day of non-work. I quit my job and will be starting school on Sept. 2. I'm excited and scared and excited and stressed and nervous and worried and excited.

Recently on my mind, this past weekend I met up with Jessica of Shiny Squirrel, Lee of 2 or 3 things, Kate of Forme-ForYou, Porter of Porter Polaroid Project, Sarah of Coutorture, and Charu of Butterfly Diary, . What a wonderful group of women - hope to do it again soon.

What you're wearing, that's what you are for the day

Sadly, I wasn't able to make it to rock the bells, but this review gave me chills of nostalgia.

Just for fun

I was recently at the Met and popped by the Superhero exhibit.
Snuck in a picture with Mystique's bum (or a mannequin painted to look like her..)

And these are for you...

Hussein Chalayan dress made of fiberglass and nylon.
The dress had visible seams where the panels met. it was pretty damn cool.

and the original Superman costume worn by Christopher Reeve. It's dark because it 'hologrammed,' switching back and forth from the Clark Kent costume to this one.

Beautiful Girl

Le Vestiaire de Clé, is the blog of a children's fashion designer. I am not sure who the gorgeous girl who models for her is but frankly she woke me up out of my blog slumber. I find her refreshing, adorable, tasteful and very stylish. I'm sick of seeing the same thing over and over - but I don't expect busy women to start shopping for new stuff like it's their job. Rethinking basics gives you a new silhouette...

PS I CANNOT get that junya watanabe stripey shirt out of my head...

camilla

When I first started to read blogs, i guess around 2004, one of the first was Camilla Engman's. I loved her pictures, of course her artwork and her pup Morran can't be beat (well.. except by these critters of course.).
Anyway, as many of you out there know, she just got back from a month long vacation (I hate being american sometimes) and so far I'm loving her pictures. This one in particular rings of real beauty and relaxation...

The O.Z.

row.190.1
betsey johnson and 19 other designers are reinventing the ruby slipper to commemorate the 70th(!) anniversary of the film.
This movie has inspired tons of fashion designers and remakes. There is something very special about it. I might have to rent it again!

sidebar: My first roommate in college was OBSESSED with this movie. we had paraphernalia everywhere in our dorm room. so i've since stayed away. i might be ready to revisit.
